I definitely agree that many copyright laws have gone overboard. The sharing and crediting of ideas is a complicated topic because while I do believe in a free sharing of ideas I feel there is a necessary line. Artist's do to an extent deserve credit for their work, not only so they are able to profit, but so they can feel pride in what they created. While its arguably unnecessary to receive glory for your work as an artist, and most artists are never truly appreciated until years after they've died, it is still important for an artist to receive the encouragement of people enjoying and appreciating their art. Artists deserve to be able to say this is my original art and be proud of that. A little encouragement and appreciation could keep an artist from giving up their dream. Also again many artists are barely scraping by as it is, if no one was paying for their art? How would they afford to continue to make their art. The film gives an example of artists allowing their fans to pay what they choose and argued that this worked effectively for this particular band. However the flaw in this experiment is that the band was already very famous and had a large following. if they had attempted the pay what you chose platform for their first album they likely never would have become famous. The film argues that the artists are however making a low profit margin compared to the companies that own the rights to their art. I do believe this is wrong I believe only the artists themselves should be able to own the rights to their art. It is hypocritical for companies to go after people for using art that is not theirs when the company itself is doing exactly this. Gaylor's statement has some truth to it. However I do slightly disagree with not necessarily the last statement but more so the level it is dramatized. I do not necessarily believe in completely getting rid off all the grip the past has on us. There are parts of the past that worked and were even more free than we are now, and could be relevant to day. I believe some of the problems are from future institutions. At one point there were no copyright laws, this means that the copyright authorities were future institutions. Many things that were once freely allowed were repressed by authorities who wanted control for profit or power rather than the past we may need to fear what future organizations will create a stronger grip on our freedoms. As citizens of the world we must have careful watch over our freedoms and ensure we fight to prevent the future from stealing them. This film brought many interesting points, many of which I find agreeable however I do believe the ideas are on a very far end of a spectrum. a spectrum where it is very difficult to draw a line of what is and isn't acceptable
